I’m linking up with the Homeschool Mother’s Journal

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week…life is getting back to normal
In our homeschool this week…we finally got back to the books on Wednesday.  We are thoroughly enjoying the Paths of Exploration unit on Lewis & Clark.  I really had no idea that their exploration involved so much natural history discovery.
We have also added Latin and an Introduction to Classical Studies to our day.  I have to say the kids are really loving Latin so far, as in it’s their “favorite part of the day” at dinner.  I’m extremely impressed with the offerings at Memoria Press.  So impressed that I think we are going to go with the whole kit and caboodle for some of the kids for next year.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…Next Tuesday I’m hosting the Homeschool Carnival on my blog.  Please consider submitting a post { carnival of homeschooling @ gmail.com }for the carnival and be sure to come back and have a read.  Lots of great ideas and encouragement.

Carnival of Homeschooling

My favorite thing this week was…Lent always seems to arrive at just the right time.
Lenten Calendar is from Catholic Icing
Questions/thoughts I have…we are planning a trip to Florida next winter, specifically to see Lego Land.  Any tips or suggestions for Lego Land?  We are renting a home on the beach, which sounds very extravagant, but when you have more than a couple of kids it really is the most economical and efficient way to travel.  We can eat a majority of our meals at home and still take advantage of all the fun that vacation has to offer.
I’m reading…I read Life of Pi on vacation and started The Forgotten Garden, both are very different books, but very interesting.  For Lent I’m reading The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which is free right now for the Kindle edition.
I’m cooking…no desserts!  At least not this week.  We’re trying to get back into the healthy eating groove after a week of indulging.
I’m grateful for…an awesome vacation.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…a few vacation photos
at our favorite place to eat, RC Otter’s on Captiva Island

back at our favorite spot for breakfast before we left!

at our hotel
it was an extremely relaxing trip and we were so appreciative of the time together.

Some days I just sit and look at vacation ideas on Trip Advisor and it brings me joy! To actually take a vacation someplace warm…..I get chills just thinking about it. Hopefully soon.

Glad you enjoyed yourself. We all need to recharge periodically.

Ha! I just posted some reviews at Trip Advisor!! It really was a great trip and so nice to sit around in the warm sun for a few days.

  3. Jenni Ryan says

Glad you had a wonderful trip. We are possibly going to Lego Land in about a month or so with our homeschool group. I will keep you posted if we do get to go. It sounds like a lot of fun!!

Your trip looks beautiful! And, you look so tan and refreshed!!

I really like what I read in The Well Trained Mind. It gave me a new perspective to Classical Education. It’s hard to believe this school year is almost over and it’s time to start getting everything in order for next year.

Hey — Captiva!! That is just about where I grew up – I lived in Naples for the first 18 years of my life. :-) We will be going down there in late March and I can’t wait for the beach time and relaxation. My parents live in N. Naples now.

Jenn, I really like the way your mantle is a part of your school display — I think I may have to do that with mine this weekend! We have those same Lenten calendars (but they look so much nicer on your mantle than they do on my frig!).

    Have a great weekend!

My son loves Latin too. I never expected it. He also loved reading about Lewis & Clark but I expected that. Beautiful pictures!!!

What beautiful photos from your vacation! I am so glad that you had a good time!
:-) I love your mantle. It is just beautiful.

  8. Gardenia says

Jen, it looks lovely there!! oh those palm trees. ahhh. and love your haircut! I like how you hung the Lenten countdown calendars on the mantel with those easy peasy hooks. I’ve been looking for a place to hang ours.

  9. Patty says

You are so tan!!! And healthy looking :) Amazing how Vitamin D is so good for us isn’t it? Great pics, too!
Your mantle looks great and I love how you hung up the Lent journey sheets. Great idea!
Lego Land…try and find discount tickets. Not to discourage you in any way, just a bit disappointed in it.

Patty, did you go to LegoLand in CA? The one in FL just opened in Oct of 2011 and we have heard nothing but rave reviews. Let me know!

  13. Jen4Ever4Always says

Thanks Gardenia, I haven’t had short hair in a long time but I’m liking it. My hair is naturally curly/frizzy so that was the only downside to the island was my “island hair” – kind of a disaster. Those are hooks I left up from our Christmas stockings!

  14. Jen4Ever4Always says

We actually stayed on Sanibel, but went to RC’s to eat! This was our second trip to Sanibel and we really love it. I put our seasonal books up their after Christmas. It’s a good way to remind me to read the books!

It’s easy to look refreshed and tan when you have nothing to do besides lay by the pool for a couple of days. It was heavenly!

  16. Laurie says

You look so refreshed and tan! So happy for you that you got some time away. Your Lenten calendars looks so cute. I have not been to Lego land, but a friend just visited the one in CA. No recommendations, but I think your kids are the perfect age. I was told that there is not much for really little ones or teens. How fun that you are hosting the Homeschool Carnvial. I am not sure I have seen it before.

  17. Jen4Ever4Always says

That’s what we have been reading too, the perfect age is between 2-12, so we definitely fit the bill! We are looking forward to the trip.

  18. Noreen says

Your vacation pictures look just wonderful Jen! You do look relaxed and at peace. We used Lacy’s Lenten calendar last year and it was fun. My son is 11 years old now and feels it’s too young for him :)

  19. Tifflynene says

Welcome back, Jen! I love how you hung all of your Lenten calendars on your mantle…what a sweet and special idea. I have been longing to get started with Latin but have never carved out time. I’m always getting mad at myself for not “just doing it.” I’ll check out your link. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Legoland but have never even been to the one here in CA. Your vacation looked divine:)
