I created our first sensory tub to go along with our Ocean Unit. Â Sensory Tubs can be super simple to pull together and can provide hours of entertainment, okay maybe not hours, but at least a few minutes of engaging and fun play. Â I have seen the idea around on the blogosphere, but until now haven’t really been inspired to give it a try. Â Here is what I used to create our Ocean Sensory Tub:
A bag of play sand
Sterilite containers with lid 15qt – 16.5″x13″x6 5/8″
several shells that we brought home from our trip to the ocean in May
I made two so Levi and Leah would be able to use them at the same time. Â They enjoyed the tubs, so I have another one planned for July.
Not only was this a great sensory activity, but it also encouraged Leah in her speech. Â As she was playing in the tub she would pull out the item and name it. Â It encouraged her to use different sounds.
