When We Can't Do it All

*This post is sponsored by TakeLessons.com

One of the most often heard criticisms of Homeschooling is "are you qualified to teach?"  It's a reasonable question I guess, after all "real" teachers have to have a degree to teach in the public or private school system.

As homeschooling moms we can tend to bristle at all the questions about our lifestyle choice.  Perhaps we even get a little defensive at times.  Truth be told there are probably even times when our pride has gotten in the way of what is best for our children.  I know this has happened to me.

While I may not be an expert in everything, far from it actually, I am an expert in my children.  Meaning, I know their strengths and weaknesses.  I know the areas where they need extra work, I know when they need to be challenged and when they need me to back off a bit and offer encouragement.

Needing Extra Help for the Busy Homeschool Day

However, there are times when we may need help for a variety of reasons.  For instance, it's no secret that math is not a strong point for me.  I asked my husband to help the three older kids and that has been great solution for all of us.

When one of our children struggled a bit with reading, I have to admit it took me a bit longer to concede we needed some help.  I'm mean what kind of homeschooling mom can't teach her child to read??  {Why do we put so much pressure on our selves to do it all?}

I kept thinking surely he will get this and surely we will stumble across the right program and he will be well on his way to reading fluently.

It turns out that some extra help from a tutor was exactly what we both needed.

We can't do everything ourselves all the time.  Thank goodness we have options.  Thank goodness for a resource like TakeLessons.

The Benefits of TakeLessons

TakeLessons connects students and families with academic tutors, art instructors, even private music teachers throughout the US.  They have been in business since 2006 and have worked with over 30,000 students nationwide.

As a busy mom with many children, I appreciate that they offer on-line lessons.  Learning in the comfort of your own home without having to drag the rest of the kids around and entertain them while a sibling has a lesson, sounds like a win-win proposition to me!
