We are finishing up our last week of the school year!

Notice I didn’t say we have everything “done”, I said we are finished. We don’t have a certain number of days that we have to complete here in Florida, but our portfolios have been reviewed (yippee!) and we have completed 37 weeks of school work.

We will be doing some light summer work, math, reading lessons and lots of read aloud time but a bulk of our work is finished for the next 8 weeks or so.

We are looking forward to mornings in pajamas with nothing to do and nowhere to go. A break from the schedule, until we are ready for a schedule again.

Summer is an excellent time to Revive a Homeschool Mom’s Soul, a time to take stock of the year and a time to plan, pray, and ponder the year ahead. More than just curriculum choices, but choices about the vision of our family. Books that inspire and renew are on the menu for me, not books that make me feel like I’m inadequate or need to add one more subject to my ever growing list.

Favorite Homeschooling Mom Books:

For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay – I’m currently re-reading this oldie but goodie.

Teaching from Rest by Sarah Mackenzie – this book, along with my Rule of Six, help to give vision to my vocation as wife and mother.

Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne – No, this is not a homeschooling book, but rather a overall parenting book. Good reminders about ways to keep life simple for our children. Life changing really.

I also plan to make time to re-watch Homeschooling Made Simple – Carole Joy Seid is a treasure trove of simple, practical tips that work!

Homeschooling Books To Read List:

I have a couple of new books that I hope to get to this summer.

The Unhurried Homeschooler by Durenda Wilson

The Confident Homeschooler: How to Thrive in the Day-to-Day by Pam Barnhill – I know this will be filled with practical goodness, that’s what Pam does best at EdSnapshots.

Family Reading:

While you are waiting for Ember Falls (the sequel to The Green Ember) to be released in July, you should be reading The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic!

Happy Reading!

Great Books for Teenage Boys

Excellent Books for Teenage Boys

(affiliate links) Homeschoolers are supposed to all be voracious readers, right? All homeschooled children walk around with their nose in a book – at least that is the stereotype. Somehow my teenage boy missed that memo! I haven’t given up hope that someday my son will enjoy reading, maybe even love it? Until then I […]

Picture Books for Black History Month

Picture Books for Black History Month

I truly love our diverse family. Raising children who look differently than we do can be a challenge though. I wish I could say I had the perfect recipe for raising black children in a white home who will never experience racism or never be on the receiving end of a negative stereotype assumption. That’s […]

My book list for 2016
