WUTW :: Ocean Edition Part 2 ~ 6/17/2011

Books 'n Such:  Happy Hollisters At Sea Gull Beach ~ Family Read Aloud

This week I finished reading The Help {this is an excellent book, I couldn't put it down!}, and started reading U is for Undertow

I'm also anxious to read 10 Habits of Happy Mothers, I have read Dr. Meeker's other books and they are excellent.  Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters would be an excellent Father's Day gift!

Around the House:  We are working on our "Make Every Weekend Count" summer fun list.

In the Kitchen:  We celebrated Pentecost and made a cake, complete with a crooked homemade candle!  The strawberries on top represent the 7 Fruits of the Spirit.

Education:

We have been reading lots of ocean themed books.

We tried a sensory tub for the first time this week, I think it was a hit!  I guess this is technically more of a beach sensory tub, rather than an ocean, but they got the point.

For our craft this week we read the story of Jonah and the Whale and made a fish with tissue paper.

Other Miscellany:  I joined Twitter a few months ago and have really enjoyed connecting with some new blogs and some new ideas.  Once upon a time I was on Facebook, and for a variety of reason I deleted my account.  However, FB is everywhere!  Often there were things I wanted to see, a free e-book available, or a giveaway I was interested in and it was all on FB - and therefore not available to me.  I decided to take a middle of the road approach and create a FB page for our blog.  I think its the best of both worlds, I can access the items I couldn't previously, but without the other shenanigans I'm not interested in. After all, the social media train isn't stopping anytime soon, but when my days are over I'm hoping to hear "Well done my good and faithful servant" from God, not my Mac!

You can join me here and here...

You also still have time to enter to win Writing Prompts for Kids, as well as a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

Feel free to link up your week!

I also wanted to comment on your principal post, but I have not been able to get the comment box to pop up. I agree that the dad, whether he actively teaches or not, is so important to our homeschool efforts. When we first started to homeschool, my husband's main contribution was to always be sure the kitchen was clean at night so we could school at the table in the morning. For the longest time I did not realize what he was doing until one night I tried to convince him to leave the mess, and he told me he did not like doing that because he did not want me to face the mess while getting ready for school in the morning. It meant so much to me!

Great wrap up! Have you posted your "make every weekend count" summer fun list? It sounds intriguing. I have been working on a "summer bucket list" as per Patty's post. I like the weekend focus because it includes dad. The tub and the craft look great. Wish you could come to CA for a beach field trip! ;)

I hope to post a wrap-up. I have not missed this year (that I can remember), but this week was a whollapalooza. I may not make the cut off for the linky, but hopefully I will get one posted. Are you going to do a "year end" linky?
