Swiss Oats :: Fast, Easy, Healthy Breakfast

March 14, 2013 by Jen 7 Comments

A fast, easy, healthy breakfast.  It doesn’t get any better than that. Add in the fact that this is a make ahead recipe that takes about 10 minutes to put together and it’s even better.

I like to try new recipes, I have a whole slew of recipes on my pinterest boards, but like most busy moms, I have my “go-to” recipes.  Recipes that I use over and over, recipes that my family actually likes to eat, recipes that are filled with ingredients that I almost always have on hand.  Swiss Oats is definitely one of those recipes.

I most often prepare this recipe on Sunday evenings, so it’s ready to go for Monday morning.  Anything to help Monday morning go a bit more smoothly.

Ingredients:

This is not a precise recipe, but very flexible, use what you have on hand and what your family likes to eat.

– Fill container of choice with good amount of oatmeal {I use store brand rolled oats, I stock up when it goes on sale so I almost always have it on hand}

– Pour milk {I use almond or almond/coconut combo} until is just covers the oats

– Add in chopped apple, raisins, craisins, or for this particular recipe I used dried apricots.  I have to say the apricots were delicious!

– If desired drizzle a bit of honey {you could also use agave or even maple syrup} over the top

– Add a dash of cinnamon

– Put a lid on the container, put it in the fridge and forget it until morning.

In the morning I stir it up, add a bit more milk if desired, another sprinkle of cinnamon and a sprinkle of coconut.  Sometimes the kids will add a dollop of yogurt on top.  I serve the Swiss Oats with a portion of Chocolate Peanut Butter Shakeology, and the kids have a great breakfast.

Eat and enjoy!

    That looks great! I can usually only manage cereal or oatmeal in the morning, but this looks easy enough even for me!

    Do you heat it up at all? In the microwave or on the stove?
