When I attended my local public high school, one of the required classes for graduation was a United States Government class. I will admit I dreaded taking the class, frankly it sounded terribly boring. Government ended up being one of my favorite high school classes. It wasn’t the most exciting subject matter for a teen, but I had a teacher who really went above and beyond to make sure the class really knew and understood the material.

I like your article! Our homeschool is sorely lacking in this area- probably due to my own fear of approaching it. I did purchase this book a while back- http://www.amazon.com/Mice-Way-Learn-About-Government/dp/1893622002/ref=pd_sim_b_4
and the books that go with it. My boys may be getting a little too old for this approach, but I will probably use it anyway. It is in my comfort zone. Thanks for the encouragement on this subject.

I cannot believe how much I have grown to just love history the older I get. I definitely think it is something that most people aquire a taste for as they mature. Most of our trips must involve some history lesson with them.

Patty, I agree. I think we have a great appreciation for how all things “fit together” as we get older!

Thanks Laurie! That looks like a great book.

I will go over and read the rest now! When I taught in the schools, and even in my college class now, I try to make history interesting, relevant and hands-on. It doesn’t have to be boring. I love it! (especially when it is taught *without* a revisionist tint to it)
God bless,
Lisa
