In my life/homeschool this week…we had a good school week, even though February can feel like an extremely long month, we got lots of things accomplished. As I mentioned last week, the kids are thoroughly enjoying learning about Greek Myths and Famous Men of Rome.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…I hosted the Homeschooling Carnival on my blog on Tuesday. Be sure to peruse through, there are lots of great blog posts.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…we’re starting to think about spring around here. I’m in the process of getting the kids signed up for a 6 week homeschool drop off group. If we get in, there should be a fun class for each of the kids to enjoy.
Questions/thoughts I have… as much as we are enjoying the Greek Myths, I’m looking for some go alongs to help with all the god/goddess names. There a lot of unique names to remember. I downloaded an audio book, but we haven’t listened to it yet. Any suggestions?
Things I’m working on…the start of our summer schedule. We are trying a heritage camp this year. It’s a day camp a few hours from home, so we will plan on making a week’s vacation out of it.
I’m reading…I’m almost finished with The Forgotten Garden. For Lent I’m reading The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
I’m cooking…we had chicken tacos again this week. They are so good and so easy. We had another good recipe that I will share next week. We also have a birthday this weekend so we are trying something new. If it works, I will share that next week too!
I’m grateful for…a sweet little girl who is so excited to be turning 8.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
“Righteousness is the term for fidelity to the word of God…Faith unites us with the righteousness of Christ himself”. Jesus demands of us “righteousness surpassing that of the Pharisees” because his presence makes it possible for us. Too often our fidelity is to our anger, our resentments, our gripes. They become idols for us. But our hope is in the promise that even “the wicked” can do “what is right and just”. Pope Benedict XVI ~ Magnificat March 2012

Jen, learning the names of the Greek Gods and Goddesses happened for my daughter with TONS of exposure. She was very interested in them and did a lot of reading on her own. I wonder if they make little trading cards or something? We had these for The Iliad and my son remembers all of those names really well.

My girl LOVES that Greek Myths book! She’s read it through multiple times and listened to it on the cassettes we picked up for 50 cents at the library sale! She also enjoy Literature Pockets: Greek Myths (http://www.amazon.com/Literature-Pockets-Greek-Roman-Grades/dp/1557998752/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330714830&sr=8-1) Do your kids like crafty-coloring type activities? They might enjoy the pockets and even though it says Gr 4-6 it can be adapted.

I had meant to come back and peruse your homeschool carnival! I will definitely to that this weekend.
I just repinned that recipe. It looks yummy! I don’t have any ideas on the Greek myths, but did you get the Jim Weiss audio? I always appreciate his audios and my boys love them.

Jen, that reminds me, the beans and rice recipe I tried last night was DELICIOUS. They kids would have preferred meat with their tacos, but that kind of defeats the Lenten Friday purpose, you thin?! I”ll have to get it to you.
What are your thoughts on the Dolorus Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ?
That pinterest page looked so cute!!! Looking forward to pictures. You will SO enjoy that homeschool drop off group. The group we were involved in was fantastic except the parents had to teach as well. It ended up being too much work and stress for myself so I pulled mine out but your drop off one….that would be the way to go!

what hope in the quote from our Pope!! When my daughter left to study abroad I was very worried ….she had to pack very lightly and meet a wt requirement with her suitcases…so she had to be selective of what she packed….before she left I enclosed The Dolorous Passion….
I am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.

Our kids all time favorite book for names of Greek gods and goddesses is the one by Aliki. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Goddesses-Olympus-Trophy-Picture-Books/dp/0064461890
I’m with Laurie on the Jim Weiss audios. He’s the best! My older kids loved those too…Especially my audio learner;) We are just finishing a 6 week group and time to get back to business around the house. Enjoy!
