Weekly Photo Collage - Back to Homeschool

We started back to school this week.  The summer was fun, but it sure was nice to be back to somewhat of a normal routine.  The kids were ready too.  I have some eager learners right now, so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

On Monday we had a good working morning, everything went fairly smooth, even for the first day of school.  Then we headed out for lunch and ice cream with Dad.

Homeschooling This Week

We are enjoying our Florida Unit Study a great deal.  I'm so glad I decided to spend this time before we move learning about our new state.  I'm looking forward to starting Tapestry of Grace, but once we get settled and have time to really focus.

This week we talked about how Florida became a state, The Everglades and learned about Stephen Foster. S is for Sunshine is a fun book that gives a great overview of the state.  We also have M is for Mitten, it's a great series!

This year I also printed off the pre-K and Early Elementary Daily Learning Notebook pages from Confessions of a Homeschooler.  I suspected the younger kids would enjoy the books, and they really have.

Homeschool Meets Real Life

Monday through Wednesday we rocked it out, which was great because Thursday and Friday - not so much.  That's okay.  That's why we started school a little early, because I knew we were going to have those days.

Thursday morning we had a house showing {we are renting our home}, which of course means frantic running around to clean everything up.  Then we had to go pick up our BWV {Big White Van} from the collision shop and drop off our rental.  Three weeks ago a driver ran into the side of our van and then took off.  Luckily neither of us were going very fast and no one was injured.  Annoying though that we had to pay for a rental van for 3 weeks!

Friday we have an appointment with a moving company for a quote, moving is expensive!  We have a couple of other errands to run and then the older boys are spending the night at a friends house.  We have a lot to pack in over the next 5 (!) weeks.

Jen, before teaching I worked for moving companies both domestic and international for years. I was the relo counselor that walked the families through the move. If I can offer one piece of advice, buy the full replacement insurance. It is much more expensive but worth it. Take pictures of every thing so you have a digital inventory and know that any collections are usually not covered and should be taken with you (along with anything priceless like wedding albums, baby photos, family herilooms, etc.) Email me if you have any questions and I will be happy to share my experience.

Glad you all got back into a bit of a routine -- and I'm praying that the house gets rented and all of this goes smoothly. I remember from when we moved how EXPENSIVE it was, too. Ugh. Looks like Jess can offer you some good advice, though! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Happy to hear the van is back. And shame on that dirty scoundrel who hit and ran! Another thought on moving....start good byes now in the form of sleep overs and dinner get togethers. You will have NO time the last two weeks!! If someone wants to do something with you, do it now, not later. And tell people in a kind way that you won't be available the last two weeks because you will be going 100 mph in 100 directions. Seriously.

It looks like you had a great week! We're starting back a month later than usual. Back to school Sept. 2nd! I'm hoping when you move here, we can do some field trips together! Oh I know of so many things in your new area!
