A Day in the Life ::: 2010

I had such a good time participating in the school room blog hop at Heart of the Matter, that I thought I would participate in the "A Day in the Life" segment as well.  I should make a disclaimer here, we haven't officially stared our 2010-2011 academic year yet.  This is my ideal schedule, and I doubt my day will go this smoothly, but none-the-less I like to get it on paper (or iCal!).

I prefer a routine over a schedule, but have finally come to the realization that in this season of life if I want to get anything accomplished, we really will function better with a schedule.

This is a typical Wednesday:

5:30am - wake-up/quiet time/e-mail/blogging

6:30am - shower/dress

7:00am - work w/ S

7:30am - finish getting ready for day

8:00am - breakfast

9:00am - rosary/devotions

9:30am - Unit Study

10:15am - morning chores - all working together

11:00am - Alphabet Path with S, A, L, L

11:30am - work w/ J

12:00pm - lunch w/ outside time

1:00pm - quiet time/independent reading {whole hour for all kids except L}

1:30pm - work w/ L

2:00pm - work w/ J

2:30pm - work w/ A

3:00pm - work w/ L

3:30pm - Tea Time (only on Wednesdays)

4:30pm - free time

5:30pm - dinner

7:30pm - younger kids in bed

8:30pm - older kids in bed

8:31pm - e-mail/blogging/reading/bed - ready to do it all over again tomorrow!

I love your organizational skills! My question is what happens to your schedule or how do you work with things like doctors appts? Do you just skip whatever is in the schedule during the appt or do you do that part of the schedule later in the evening?

Cari-normally I would just skip that part of the day. Sometimes for the older boys I have them take along work they can do in the car. Otherwise we just start over again the next day!!

Thanks for all the kind words! Rebecca-I have no secrets for getting up early, except for the fact that it is my only real quiet of the day and that is my motivation :) but I still do need an alarm ;)

I am such a creature of habit. I think my children are the same. I love routine, it keeps me sane!

I have the same poetry book that you had in your picture. What a lovely idea...a tea party once a week.

And of course, I noticed your cookies on the counter :)

Jen, your kiddos are so beautiful!

Thanks for sharing your schedule, your kids are adorable! I wish my kiddos would get up as early. I am lucky to get them up by 8, usually 830! Have a great year!

This looks great! I like how you have time for each child worked into your schedule!
Thanks also for stopping by our blog today! :) To get the schedules right on our post, I used the "Print Screen" button on our keyboard- then pasted it to "Paint.NET" (a free version of Photoshop) & cropped it- saved it- & then put it on just like any other picture. Hope that makes sense! :)
Blessings!!

I'm curious to know what you specifically do with Levi (your 3 yo). I have a 3 yo too :)

Patty-thanks for your kind words, I wish I could take credit for those cookies, but my husband brought them home!!

Rawbanana-sometimes I wish they would sleep in a bit!

Jessica-thanks for the tip, I will have to try that.

Ashley-he is going to do Along the Alphabet Path along with his older sisters, here is a more detailed post http://dunlapfamily-borninmyheart.blogspot.com/2010/08/along-alphabet-path.html then a big part of his afternoon is spent rotating around with his older sibs playing, reading etc. I really don't do many formal things for pre-k. Great schedule. I like that there is plenty of time for the children to still be children and that you are spending individual time with each of them. Have a great year and thanks for sharing. :)

Your plans sound great! I love my quiet time alone to prepare for the day, and the only time I can get it is in the wee hours of morning as well. =))
